size2shoes

size2shoes are undoubtedly one of the most ‘irregular’ bands to be heard in today’s industry: irregular meaning different and different meaning fresh. The duo, Micheál (Moley) and Eoin are two brothers, known in Ireland for a while through their talented (undoubtedly an understatement understatement) family, although size2shoes are on their way to a completely different musical destination to what would be imagined.

“The synergy between [size2shoes]… puts you in mind of Simon & Garfunkel or Steely Dan unplugged” - Sunday Independent

size2shoes are, to say the least, magical - and not in the clichéd way you would hear from some “etheral” druid who realised he was Irish around about a year ago. No, these brothers have something very special. Just sit down with a glass of wine to listen to their début album and before a drop touches your lips, you should be standing from the comforts of your armchair in shock at the perfection and fresh lyrics. These brothers present themselves on the same par, and at times above that of John Spillane’s songwriting. Their lyrics are cheerful and reflectional on young life nowadays. Eoin and Moley have paired their voices together in a way not many could have imagined in their ‘New-Wave Acoustic Pop Irish’ style. The word fusion fits in perfectly with these mens’ musical compositions and harmonies. Thankfully, their harmonies are strong and clean, and interesting, unlike much of the artsy-fartsy stuff we hear nowadays from those artists who simply layer them over and over again until they have created a musical kaleidoscope that is unfit for the faint-hearted!

“Fresh, uplifting and almost jaunty in parts their self titled debut album is a beautifully constructed and seamlessly produced creation” - Limerick Event Guide

size2shoes is a group of Spidermen, and watching the trailer for that very film (okay, the men is man, but you know what’s meant) you’d have to laugh at what a size2shoes trailer would be! Simply imagine the narrator: (US voices at the ready) By day they’re just working men, but by night!… And what if I was to compare them to Sister Act? This brother act have many different identities under different genres and are already Irish superstars in their own right.

Moley has performed vocals and percussion with the Chieftains, sang with Russell Crowe and with violinist Nigel Kennedy, while Eoin has worked as the orchestral manager for the World Youth Orchestra in Rome and has toured though Jerusalem, Ramallah, Jordan and Amman and for the people of Palestine and Israel.

“a mesmeric and dreamlike Celtic hymn that owed as much to Van Morrison in his meditative mode as it did to the spirit world.” - Sunday Independent

Just listen to the clarity in every vocal line, complimented by the musicianship and artistry of the sublime guest musicians - size2shoes are a supergroup in their own right, pulling influences from pop, old rock, Irish trad and rap and giving clear, exciting performances. Their début is to be recommended for those in need of a smile, all of those in need of some social perspective, and those who simply love good, proper music.
